Located in a picturesque 24-acre river valley, this long-established centre (founded in 1982) provides a rich natural setting ideal for exploration, outdoor learning, and environmental discovery. Surrounded by nature, the site offers an immersive, hands-on experience that deepens students' connection to the environment.

With over 40 on-site activities to choose from, the centre delivers an impressive range of options tailored to each group. Programmes are designed collaboratively—leaders are asked about their objectives, and activities are selected to match the specific needs of the group. This flexible, personalised approach ensures that each visit is purposeful, engaging, and age-appropriate.

A standout feature of the centre is its dedicated instructor model. Every group is assigned a single instructor for the duration of their stay, allowing for meaningful connections, consistency, and a deeper understanding of each group’s dynamic. This continuity helps to bring out the best in every individual and supports a positive, supportive atmosphere throughout the trip.

Ideal for schools and youth groups looking for a memorable outdoor learning experience, this centre combines natural beauty, flexible programming, and passionate staff to create truly transformative residential adventures.

Set in its own river valley in Bruton, Somerset, Mill on the Brue offers a naturally beautiful and environmentally conscious setting. Once a 9-hole golf course, the site has been thoughtfully transformed since 1982. Rather than rewilding, the focus has been on making the land greener and more sustainable.

The founding family introduced a no chemical spray policy early on and began restoring the landscape by replanting trees and reinstating hedgerows. Today, those efforts have flourished, creating a rich, thriving environment that supports both wildlife and outdoor learning for visiting groups.

We’re passionate about what ends up on every plate. All of the meals are home-cooked, hearty, and packed with the energy young people need for an active day. We believe good food should be tasty, nutritious, and plentiful—and that’s exactly what we deliver.
The menus are thoughtfully planned around the seasons, making the most of fresh, homegrown fruit and vegetables from our own garden. Students staying with us for four nights get to take part in our "Garden to Table" experience, learning where their food comes from and helping bring it to life.
The centre also runs Zero Hero competition throughout each stay, encouraging everyone to reduce food waste and think sustainably.
Here’s what a typical day of meals looks like:
Breakfast: A familiar start with cereals, toast, and fresh fruit.
Lunch: The main meal of the day—think Spaghetti Bolognese, Chicken Curry, or other hearty favourites, always served with a homemade pudding.
Supper: A lighter evening meal such as toasties, jacket potatoes, or pizza, followed by yoghurt or fruit.

All of the meals are served in the Longhouse which sits up to 110 students.
