The Lochranza Centre CIC utilises its incredible local environment as a playground to deliver a wide range of exciting and engaging outdoor activities.

Students can enjoy thrilling water-based activities such as canoeing, kayaking, and paddleboarding on the sheltered Lochranza sea loch, surrounded by stunning views of the castle and the dramatic Arran coastline. Our gorge walk up the River Sannox provides an exhilarating challenge, with opportunities to scramble up the gorge, slide down waterfalls, and plunge into pools. We offer an incredible 25-metre abseil off a cliff with breathtaking sea views and a demanding ladder climb that tests both determination and teamwork. In our local woods, students develop a range of bushcraft skills, including how to build a shelter and start a fire (not forgetting the s’mores!). Our picturesque mountain bike routes along the coastline are suitable for all abilities. For groups seeking a greater challenge, we offer guided hikes up some of Arran’s most impressive peaks, including the island’s highest mountain, Goatfell. From its summit, adventurers are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the entire island and a huge sense of achievement.

Not only are our activities amazing fun, but they are also incredibly rewarding, as students gain a broad range of practical skills while developing teamwork, resilience, confidence, and a deeper appreciation for the natural world. As a field studies centre, we also provide a range of outdoor learning sessions for primary through to secondary pupils, including Geography, Environmental Science, and Geology. Learning takes place outdoors, using real-life examples and hands-on experiences, bringing environmental education to life.
