These treks vary from very simple to more challenging depending on the group and their experience.

Arrive/ Old Delhi
All our programmes start in Delhi. Your group will typically spend two days exploring this magnificent city, with all its history and cultural diversity. There are numerous attractions in New Delhi such as Mahatma Gandhi’s house and garden, Indira Gandhi’s house, which is a museum and exhibition centre, the parliament buildings and presidential palace. Dilli Haat craft market, India Gate and the wonders of Lutyens New Delhi; shopping areas and of course Connaught Place.

Agra On the second day you will take an early morning train to Agra to see one of the most beautiful monuments and wonders of the world, the Taj Mahal. You will have the opportunity to visit a marble, local art and textile galleries. After lunch we visit World Heritage, Agra located 2.5 km northwest of its more famous sister monument,. The fort can be more accurately described as a walled city.

New Delhi
On the third day you will explore further the wonders the capital city has to offer. Travel is by cycle rickshaw, motor rickshaw, taxi or coach. You will see the chaos and vibrancy in the ancient streets of Old Delhi, Chandni Chowk, with its teeming narrow lanes, markets of every kind and the famous Red Fort, the impressive Jama Masjid Mosque. Also, the most memorable, the visit to Father Ravi’s shelter for children and the destitute. That evening we take an overnight sleeper train to Haridwar. The first three days are busy, but hugely rewarding.

Shivpuri/Rishikesh and the Holy Ganges
We arrive by train in Haridwar, then travel onward by road to the Ganges River where we settle into The Hideaway Camp or a similar one down the road. Their campsite is in a scenic area on the banks of the holy River Ganges. Here we are just a short distance from two holy Hindu cities: Rishikesh where the Beatles stayed and Haridwar. You will have then experience white water rafting and some amazingly exciting rapids. But you will
also enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this beautiful location. There will be trekking, beach activities as well as the opportunity to experience traditional activities, including yoga, cookery.. We have the chance to visit a local school and enjoy sightseeing in one or both of the holy cities.

It will be hot when you arrive in Delhi, around 25-35 c in Spring and Autumn and hotter still in summer. However it will be cooler up in the hills 20 – 25 c and cooler still at night. Sightseeing in the cities will mainly take
place early mornings and late afternoons. In the hottest part of the day the group will be protected in the shade.

When visiting India, it is helpful if you like curry, but there will be a choice so that you can avoid spicy food. Meals provided are nourishing and tasty and there are plenty of vegetables. Vegetarians are well catered for in India, with many of the population favouring this diet, but there are also many non-veg options. Part of your preparation for this trip is to get used to curries and if you are a fussy eater to extend your boundaries.
Meals Out - In Delhi you will take some meals outside the hostel. This suits your programme and is anyway part of the real India experience.

Delhi - With saftey and location in mind we tent to use accommodation in youth hostels within the embassy area of Delhi. Students are usually in dormitories, and adults in twin bedded rooms. Rooms and dormitories are basic, with or without en-suite facilities.

Shivpuri - Students will be in two, three or four berth tents on mattresses (usually beds for adults) with sleeping bags OR sheets, blanket/duvet and pillows. There are plumbed WCs and water for washing. There are shower facilities and a limited amount of hot and cold water. The standard of hygiene is good. Showers are also available/ There are WCs, and thunder boxes and plumbed spring for washing. Showers are also available.

Overnight Train - Here you will have a bunk (two or three tiered) in an air conditioned or non air conditioned carriage. We try to book the entire group together but this is sometimes not possible but all students will have a responsible adult nearby. For your comfort you should carry a cotton sheet sleeping bag or single duvet cover. All of our visits and activities have been tried and tested by our experienced Head Office and `in country` teams and our sister company has been sending schools on a similar visit for nearly ten years.

We provide a Senior Guide Leader to escort you throughout your stay and all activities are delivered by appropriately qualified staff that conform to our stringent standards of safety. There is 24 hour `in country` medical support as well as 24 hour Head Office telephone assistance during your trip.
