What's it like?

Hop over the channel to our lakeside Adventure Centre in the pretty French town of Ardres, for an action-packed French adventure trip, just 2 hours from the UK. From as little as £240pp (including VAT and travel) you may even find this option cheaper than travelling to a UK centre!

With many schools now seeking a little more French culture, our Opal Coast Adventure trip includes our most popular on-site activities from high ropes to kayaking as well as the region's best cultural visits including Nausicaa National Sealife Centre, a trip to Chocolats de Beussent and the chance to make your own croissants in a local boulangerie. One day you will be trying out our new on-site underground caving system and the next admiring the wonders of the ocean. A French trip that has it all. 

Fun activities here includes a range of popular water sports on our on-site lake including canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, kata kanuing and raft building. Your group will also enjoy a range of other activities including our new underground caving system, high ropes course and climbing wall to name but a few of the activities on offer here. In the evenings, you will enjoy toasting marshmallows around the campfire, team games and talent shows.

 This exciting trip to France now perfectly combines the best of adventure with French culture, giving your pupils the ultimate French experience. 

With an on-site lake we offer a range of popular water sports from kayaking to stand up paddleboarding. We've recently built an underground caving system (new 2019) and also have a climbing wall and high ropes course for your pupils to enjoy. 

As well as an action-packed adventure programme, in 2020 this trip also includes a trip to Nausicaa Sealife Centre, a visit to Chocolats de Beussent and the chance to make your own croissants in a local boulangerie.

Our exclusive and well-established Acorn camp caters offers a friendly and safe environment for schools. It's small and perfectly formed, catering for just two school groups at a time in two private tented villages sleeping up to 48 each, making this ideal for schools wanting a quiet setting or even to have exclusive use of the whole camp. As always, each village has a central marquee for dining and socialising and a volleyball court for games. A toilet and shower block is within each reach of all villages and separate facilities are provided for party leaders.

This might be camping, but it's comfortable camping! Tents are standing height with proper beds and hard flooring. Student tents accommodate four per tent. Party Leader tents sleep two and come with a few extra comforts such as timber framed beds, wooden flooring, a wardrobe, lighting. electricity and a fridge.

About half an hour’s drive away from Ardres is Wissant, a pretty little fishing village. Slightly further field (45 minutes) is the popular seaside town of Boulogne-sur-Mer, the perfect place to take your group to practice their French, do a bit of shopping or relax on the beach. 


Nausicaa Sealife Centre

The French national sea-life centre was opened in 1991 and contains over 32,000 marine animals. Features include a touch-tank where pupils can stroke rays, a shark pool and regular temporary exhibitions. A teacher’s education pack is available (order in advance via the web-site). Allow approx 2-3 hours for your visit.

Parc Astérix

Parc Astérix is made up of three parks; a leisure park and two theme parks. Parc Astérix will give you the sensation of travelling through a huge cartoon strip depicting the history of the Gaul in a light-hearted manner. Merry-go-rounds, a water flume ride, performances by dolphins and sea lions are just some of the attractions to be enjoyed by both children and adults alike.

Chocolaterie de Beussent

The Chocolaterie de Beussent is one of the last traditional chocolaterie left to make chocolates straight from cocoa beans, imported from Africa and South America. Pupils will have a guided visit of the premises and will be explained how chocolates are made, and will be able to taste some of the products made.

In Flanders Field Museum

This award-winning museum is located inside the Cloth Hall on the Market Square in the centre of Ypres. It details the history surrounding WW1, what life was like on the front line. Tyne Cot Cemetery and Memorial

Tyne Cot Cemetery is the resting place of nearly 12,000 soldiers of the Commonwealth Forces, the largest number of burials of any Commonwealth cemetery of either world war.
Inside the cemetery two mourning angels kneel on top of dome-covered pavilions at either end of the memorial wall, highlighting the harrowing nature of the conflict in this area, Passchendaele.
