From the Norman invasion of England in 1066 to the D-Day landings of 1944, Normandy has played an important role in European history. With its spectacular monastery, Mont St-Michel; the Bayeux Tapestry, D-Day beaches, war memorials, magnificent rugged coastline and cultural charm, it's clear to see why many UK schools travel to Normandy every year.
Our well-established, private Acorn Adventure centre is located in Hauteville-sur-Mer, in the Manche, Normandy region in Northern France. Set in a traditional seaside town, minutes away from a long sandy beach, we are just 67km from Mont St Michel and 78km from Bayeux and so are ideally located for school residential trips in this area. Our market-leading 4-6 night Normandy residential programmes combine the most popular adventurous activities (rock-climbing, kayaking, high ropes & more) with all the popular school visits such as Mont St Michel, Bayeux Tapestry, Goats Cheese Farm, Arromanches 360 cinema and D Day Landing Beaches.
This Normandy residential trip is diverse in its educational content, enriching children’s lives with history, culture and travel. It also offers experiences many children may not have enjoyed before such as paddling a kayak or climbing on real rock; activities that many other providers in the region have stopped offering. Our experience, over 35 years, is that these are the most enjoyable and memorable activities, ones that most schools often aren’t able to provide in their own grounds, making this trip not only one to remember, but also excellent value for money. Having the best of adventure and culture in one trip rather than two ensures that more children can benefit from the experiences on offer and can get the maximum outcomes, without having to pay twice. We want our trips to be as inclusive as possible and work hard to help schools achieve this.
Acorn is committed to putting the experience of young people before cost and so continues to offer these important adventurous activities that require higher qualifications and more experienced staff. We also continue to be the best value operator and haven’t found a Normandy package yet that outperforms ours. So it's worth an explore, just to see how we compare.
As a small, family run company, your school will also receive a very personal service from Acorn, all the way through. From expert Tour Organisers pre-travel, to your own dedicated Village Manager on-site to take care of you. Your school will also have your own exclusive, pre-erected tented village with a central marquee for your own private dining experience. With only one other school on-site at this small, friendly centre (in their own separate village away from yours), this is also a really great centre for schools seeking a more intimate setting for team-building and also one that allows teachers to relax and enjoy the environment, rather than worrying about managing pupils in a large, busy environment.
Many of our Normandy Adventure schools have been travelling for years, if not decades. They often remark on the huge benefits of travelling to France. The journey itself is a big part of the trip; sharing the coach with friends, going on the ferry, crossing into a new country, seeing the sights along the way… and with the coach and ferry included in our prices it can often work out to be more affordable than staying in the UK. Surprising, but often true. Take a look.
